The story began during World War I. Amidst economic stagnation, visionary Swiss leaders established the "Swiss Sample Fair" (MUBA) in the border city of Basel. From Struggle to Independence

The Duel of the Decades: Quartz vs. Mechanical
The 1970s brought the "Quartz Crisis." Asian manufacturers disrupted the market with electronic precision, pushing the Swiss industry to the brink of collapse. The reaction was fierce: Switzerland introduced advanced production models and, in 1986, finally allowed Asian brands to exhibit in Basel—a move that intensified competition and forced Swiss brands to elevate their mechanical artistry to new heights.
Cartier led 15 luxury brands to exit Basel to form SIHH in Geneva, seeking a more exclusive, private environment.
Baselworld unveiled a new "Super Hall," welcoming massive global participation and cementing its leadership.
2013: The Pinnacle of Architecture
Under the leadership of the Swatch Group, Baselworld reached its architectural peak. A 160,000 sqm venue welcomed over 1,800 exhibitors and 100,000 visitors. As Mr. Francois Thiébaud (Tissot President) noted: "This grand space allows us to better enhance the value of Swiss conception and production."
